Rob is an accredited member of the International Guild of the Battlefield Guides and member of the Western Front Association. He works as battlefield guide and tour director for military tours, adult and schools tours. He also leads tours focusing on ANZAC experience of the Great War, which includes private and bespoke tours. Rob was commissioned infantry officer into The Gordon Highlanders (now the Royal Regiment of Scotland), and spent much of his 20 years service in the battalion. He has also worked as a staff officer at divisional and brigade levels and as a reconnaissance instructor. Rob has an extensive operational experience having deployed to Northern Ireland, Iraq, Afghanistan and Sierra Leone (on a United Nations peacekeeping operation). During his service, he held an exchange appointment with the Italian Army and successfully completed the Joint Forces Higher Command and Staff Course. Outside of the Army, he spent the best part of 4 years working as a humanitarian in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Western Sahara, where his focus was on rehabilitating former child soldiers and reducing armed violence by removing the explosive remnants of war and reducing the possession of small arms and ammunition. Rob earned also a Masters Degree in Military Strategic Studies.

Rob speaks Italian to a high level and have a functional level of, German and French; and he also have a good field level of Afghan Dari.
